Practical Approaches to Managing Pain

This interdisciplinary regional conference brings together national and local leaders involved in efforts to address diverse challenges in providing effective pain control.  Participants can share resources and expertise, network with one another and obtain knowledge and resources to assist patients in pain by evaluating and treating it in the best possible way.  

This year we are specifically focusing on developing practical approaches to managing pain in primary care settings.  Day 1 will use a workshop format to provide intensive training that will include content on: 

  • Overview of pain types and prevalence 
  • Evaluating and treating pain
  • Evaluating possible problems of abuse
  • Appropriate documentation
  • Pain management tools for community health care settings
  • Basic and advanced pain management pharmacology
  • Evaluating and treating complex pain syndromes
  • Multi-disciplinary management of acute and chronic pain
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Case presentations

Day 2 will comprise national keynote speakers and a panel discussion with these keynotes and two Montana primary care providers.  The focus will be implementing in Montana lessons learned from national strategies.
